Design a serving utensil from a 2”x4”x6” cherry wood block

A design project for AD 215: Materials and Processes I

DESIGN INTENT

Design a serving utensil incorporating as much movement as possible, a sleek serving utensil utilizing twisting form faces

PROJECT GOAL

1

Good shape but it’s too thick overall
Wasn’t sure about the cut out either

2

Over corrected the thickness issue so it’s too thin but has a perfect face twist

Much better thickness but the extra twist is too distracting and the bowl is not as clean a design as a spatula

3

The final design pulled from both the first and final design mockup, focusing on the smooth face transitions without distracting from the intended use and ergonomics of the utensil.

The final product was made by machine cutting a basic form before hand finishing the cherry wood to the final outcome.
